The Full Story On Aristotle As Only Hinted At In The Book

An excellent article has been published in The Atlantic Monthly magazine which describes in considerable detail how Aristotelian logic was the starting point for the logic that underlies all digital computers and their Von Neuman architecture. An architecture that Von Neuman himself acknowledged was in fact the work of Turing. These developments were of necessity only covered briefly in The Programmer's Odyssey but the Atlantic article explains in full how philosophers and mathematicians such as Leibniz, Frege, Russell and Whitehead, Shannon, Turing and many others refined logic to form the foundation stone of digital computers. It's a must read article for all those interested in the history of computing and computer programming.
